The PLA Blog | Official Blog of the Public Library Association

eHow.com says, “Staff development refers to the processes, programs, and activities through which every organization develops, enhances, and improves the skills, competencies, and overall performance of its employees and workers.” Staff development is the topic for the “Perspectives column” in the May/June 2011, issue of Public Libraries. Doing something exciting in this arena? Why not tell the public library world about it by submitting an essay for the “Perspectives” column. Some ideas for consideration: If you are the staff trainer, how do you solicit ideas, create sessions, and follow up? Does your staff use online learning (e.g. webinars) in a creative way? Staff in-service: how do you keep it fresh and lively? C.E. on a shoestring: share your ideas. Public libraries of all sizes are invited to share their stories.

Essays should be 1000 words +/-. Photographs are welcome. If you would like to contribute an essay contact the editor, Nann Blaine Hilyard at . Copy is due March 1.
