Advocacy Day Rally
ALA will host a Library Advocacy Day rally at 11 a.m. June 29, 2010, on the U.S. Capitol grounds in Washington, D.C. This one-time opportunity during ALA’s Annual 2010 Conference is a chance for library supporters to demonstrate support for libraries and for first-time advocates to get involved in library advocacy. After the rally, which is free and open to the public, ALA members will meet with members of Congress and staff to talk about the vital role libraries play in their communities and the federal issues that can help or hinder the library’s ability to serve its community, especially the importance of federal funding.
The rally will last approximately 45 minutes. At the rally, there will be a variety of prominent speakers, so come ready to cheer on libraries!

The ALA Washington Office is hosting a breakout session titled “Library Advocacy Day: What to Know Before You Go” on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in the Convention Center. This session will go over all the basics of the rally and give you time to ask questions. There will also be volunteers and staff in the ALA Pavilion, in the exhibits hall, who will be able to assist you, so stop by anytime!
