360 Degrees of Teen Advocacy @ Your Library

How can you advocate for services for teens? Learn how at this program, which will be held prior to the 13th National PLA Conference, on Tuesday, March 23, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The PLA Conference will take place March 23-27, 2010, in Portland, Oregon.

Whether you provide direct services to teens, act as a board member, manage a library system, or work in library education, this workshop will help you develop the skills needed to advocate for library services to teens.

By the end of this preconference, participants will:

*be able to tell the story of excellent teen service outcomes in a compelling way;
*have learned advocacy methods to incorporate into daily work;
*know how to communicate successfully with decision- and policy- makers;
*be equipped to call upon an array of communication tools to advocate in remote as well as face-to-face environments;
*know how to identify community members and officials who will support teen advocacy efforts.

Presenters include: Linda W. Braun, Educational Technology Consultant, Librarians and Educators Online (LEO), New York, N.Y.; Jeff Frost, Lobbyist, California School Library Association, Sacramento.
