How many libraries still maintain a vertical file? How many people use the vertical file? No really, how many people actually use it. We all want to do things efficiently and effectively. This morning we heard that efficiency is doing things right and effectiveness is doing the right thing. In the case of a vertical file, you may have the most efficient well put together vertical file but if no one is using it, it is not very effective. How many of us choose do things because it seems like a really cool idea, we saw it at a conference, everyone else is doing it, or just because we have always done it? Choosing and using the service responses and selecting activities based on those responses ensure that you are doing things efficiently and effectively.
