I’m thrilled PLA invited me to blog this year’s Spring Symposium in Nashville. I’m attending the Turning the Page workshop, scheduled to begin in 7 minutes. Turning the Page: Building Your Library Community is a workshop PLA created to provide librarians, staff, trustees and supporters with the tools they need to advocate for their libraries. I’m here to learn and I’m wearing two hats, my ALA staff hat (I’m executive director of the Reference and User Services Association and the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies) and my trustee hat (I’m a trustee at my hometown library in Homewood, Illinois. Our library has received a Gates grant!)
PLA past presidents Clara Bohrer and Christine Hage are joining me at the workshop and I’ll be posting their insights as we go through the workshop today and tomorrow.
Last night the conference kicked off with PLA President Carol Sheffer’s welcome and a fun concert performed by Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter and storyteller Tom Chapin, followed by a reception sponsored by Bookpage.
More later as my workshop is about to begin with a welcome from PLA’s Executive Director Greta Southard.
