Submit Your Questions for the Next Presidential Debate

On Tuesday, October 7, one of the three 2008 Presidential debates between Senators Barack Obama and John McCain will be held at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. This debate will be a town hall format moderated by Tom Brokaw. The moderator will call on members of the audience as well as select questions submitted online.
Friday, October 3, is the LAST day to submit questions for the next debate between Senators Barack Obama and John McCain. The more questions submitted, the more likely a library question will be asked. This is an opportunity for the library voice to become an important part of the 2008 Presidential election.

    On Immigration: We as a country are facing an illegal immigration problem but not on Americas mind is the abuse of the H1B Visa programs and outsourcing. This has led to the youth of America not pursuing degrees in Engineering and Computer Science because they are afraid that they will not find jobs in the future

    What do you intend to do about Corporate American abusing the H1B visa system to hire immigrants to fill high tech position and outsourcing to the point to pad their bottom lines at the expense of American jobs.

    I would like to know if John McCain really supports freedom of the press. It seems like everytime he does not like something reported he blames it on “the liberal media.” I saw a clip of him from way back during the Keating investigation and he blamed the press for that as well. It seems he has a problem with the first amendment.

    My question would be in light of Sarah Palin’s and John McCain’s unfounded attacks on Barack Obama’s character, in particular the tenuous (at best) link between him and William Ayres and claiming that Barack Obama “pals around with terrorists.”

    “The Washington Post reports that when Gov. Sarah Palin attacked Obama during a speech in Florida this morning, one audience member shouted, ‘Kill him!’”

    How do you justify these false attacks when now, it appears, your lies might actually be putting your oponent in danger? Have you no honor left at all? How do you sleep at night?

    I am a democrat, but I would seriously consider voting for you if you can tell me specifics on how you are different from George Bush? That is what everyone is saying about you, “you are just like Bush” Honestly you must have some of your own specific opinions that differ from Bush.

    All of us believe things that are not correct. Please tell us about an incident where you suddenly saw evidence that you were on the wrong side of an issue, and how quickly you modified your actions accordingly.

  • Federal Workers Owe Billions in Delinquent Taxes

    What are they going to do about this.. In some states if you owe taxes you have to at least eneter into a repayment agreement or you loose you job.. goverment workers have the same rights as everyone else but they need to be held to a HIGHER standard because they work for US.. If they don’t pay up then they should be GONE…

    Mr McCain, it was reported that you would cut 1.3 trillion dollars in fraudulent medicaid and medicare spending as part of your plan for our economy. Is this figure even remotely realistic? How could you consider cutting medicaid and medicare benefits? Also, please explain in detail your plan for health care reform, specifically addressing whether it’s true you would tax health benefits.

    For both Obama and McCain. What is your stance on raising the age before Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) on tax deferred investments
    is required. Currently that age is 70 1/2.

    obama is always saying he will get some of the money for his proposed spending by pulling troops out of iraq. how will he do that when in the same breath he says he intends to increase the troops in afghanistan. looks to me like they would neutralize each other or even be more costly since it costs large amounts of money to move around troops. is he saying it would be cheaper to wage the war in afghanistan? thank you for letting me voice my thoughts.

    Senator Obama, why did you have transcripts and thesis from Harvard locked up and sealed? Are you trying to hide something?

    If you have nothing to hide why not release them? Not doing so makes it appear you’re trying to hide a history of radical ideology from the American people.

    This question in for both candidates: You both promised to run clean, honest campaigns. However, this has been one of the dirtiest campaigns in years, with both sides telling flagrant lies to dirty the other candidates name. I want to know if you think the American people are stupid and just aren’t going to check the facts, or your both jsut so desperate you will try anything to win? I also want to know if either of you will commit, today, to stop lyign and only run positive ads.

    My question is for Senator Obama. How in the world are you going to give 95 percent of the Americans a tax break, when only approximately 35 percent pay the entire tax bill? Would you not agree that raising taxes on the big business that hire large numbers of people would result in a great job loss for a great number of Americans. The wealthy are going to stay wealthly even if they have to cut jobs or change locations.

    Both presidential candidates believe we should purchase prescription drugs from other countries to hold down health care costs. However, they both believe we should keep U.S. businesses in the U.S. The quality problems with imported drugs from China and Canada are well documented. How can they take this position knowing the quality of pharmaceuticals overseas is not up to FDA standards, and the fact doing so will put pharma companies and their many employees out of business?

    Would you give an explanation of how this crisis happened and who was responsible for it and If laws were broken, would you prosecuted those responsible? Expose them so voting Americans know who they are and what they did. Would you have hearings on this matter, and demand that they be open, not behind closed doors? And hold Congress responsible to get to the bottom of this matter so that it will not happen agin.

    I would like to ask Obama how he, if elected, plans to fulfill his role as Commander-in-Chief of the military. Based on his admitted drug abuse, as well as his associations with known terrorists, he would not be able to get a top-secret clearance. Will he be shielded from sensitive information, or will he get a waver as POTUS. I feel that someone not qualified for a security clearance is not qualified to run this country.

    I am from rural Pennsylvania, a state that helped found and lead our country in its early days with the declaration of independence, and many people from the small towns and rural communities feel they are being left behind as the country moves forward. Many people are from the lower middle class and see small businesses struggle, jobs move away, inflation raising consumer prices, and do not pay taxes because of their low middle class incomes. I would like to ask the candidates what do they have in their economic plan to help the Americans who are from rural America in this lower income class.

    Back in the 90s, the Democratic controlled Executive branch and congress passed Senate Bill S.900 and also the Financial Service Modernization Act. Please explain how this bill and act have contributed to the current financial crisis in the US and how would you change or address this problem that lead to the Sub-prime crisis and meltdown.

    Will federal appointments be based on the best qualified candidates? Or will MWBE limitations result in appointment of less-than-the-best as long as they fit the MWBE requirements, much as New Yorkers have experienced in the current administration?

    How does each presidential candidate intend to make appointments in their administration? Will top level federal appointments be used as internships for fledgling friends?

    Where is the money coiming from for both candidates in this national election. I want the news media to research this and give the people this information. So often, money talks. Those who supply it get listened to and get favors. I want to know who and where the money is coming from that will influnce our next president.

    I’m currently undecided about whom I should vote for. One of the problems I have deciding is that even though Senator Obama has been campaigning I don’t know much about him other than what he makes known. Recently information came out about his association with William Ayers, so I would like to ask Senator Obama if he would allow immediate access to his records during his years at Colombia and Harvard as well as allow us to find out about his years as a community organizer.

    What are Barack Obama’s and John McCain’s positions on the recent $25 Billion loans to the American Automotive Industries?

    A Brazilian Fiat model was developed several years ago, (WITH GENERAL MOTORS DELPHI DIVISION HELP), that would run on Natural Gas, Gasoline, an Alcohol/Gasoline mixture, or pure Alcohol.

    Since this vehicle has been developed with the assistance of GM, while GM, Ford, and Chrysler have all been playing “fumblefinger” with alternate fuels, I believe this bailout package should REQUIRE that ALL cars and trucks sold in the US next year be equipped to run on all manner of fuels, just as this Brazilian Fiat can do. If the companies whine and refuse to do this, they should be denied access to the bailout funds.

    I have a question on tax reform for both candidates. Why aren’t they considering a flat tax or fair tax to fix our problems. Our current tax structure is very dated and needs a complete overhaul. We need to reduce taxes to be competitive globally and to also keep companies from moving offshore to reduce tax liabilities. Wouldn’t a fair tax or flat tax do this? Also wouldn’t it enable more fiscal responsibility for the Federal Government vices it continuing to grow organizations such as the IRS to chase these problems down? Tax reform has the potential to rectify many financial and economic issues and also provide needed social programs. I’d like to know both of the candidates perspective on rewriting our tax code completely to make taxation fair for everyone.

  • Would someone please ask both Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain how they each feel about the concept of monetary compensation for African Americans who are descendants of slaves, known as financial “reparations.”

    All of the promises invoked by both of the candidates don’t really count for much. It is really the ability of a leader to unite opposing forces for the common good. How will you support the vision of Abraham Lincoln, “that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth”.
