I did see Jenny's write-up, and it is quite interesting. My goal with this post was to be very basic and non-techie, and give a sense of the basic options, but Jenny's post is great for more detailed and technical information.

Jenny Levine did a nice writeup about DDR and there's a YouTube video of us at the ALA booth at Midwinter 2007 in Seattle. I bought everything for a home set up and it was easy to do. See http://www.theshiftedlibrarian.com/archives/2007/03/06/ddr_not_just_for_libraries.html

Hi Cynthia.

Some projectors have the capacity for sound built in. To find out if your projector has this feature and how to control the sound, check the manual for details.

The projector we use for DDR is an older Epson PowerLite 5500C which does have a built in speaker, but it's not very loud, and it's only mono. We plug a standard set of computer speakers into the Audio Out jack in the back of the projector, and this allows us to control the sound better. Most newer projectors have that jack labeled, but if it's not obvious on your projector, check the manual for help.

You can get fancier speakers if you want (they make computer speakers with subwoofers and the like), but a good, standard set of speakers oughta do just fine.

Thank you SO much for this info. We are planning to buy the works for Summer Reading, and I've been searching the web for the best price. I found myself totally baffled by all the choices. You've really clarified things for me!

I have a question about hooking up the PS2 to a projector. Right now we are using a strange setup in which we use a tv for sound and a projector to put it on the big screen, but it's a bit strange and a lot of equipment. Can you explain more about hooking up to a Projector and getting sound, please?
