Laura Crossett, Teen Librarian at Franklin Park Library in Illinois, wrote in to us about her fabulous display and reading lists for Teen Read Week.

One display is titled “Get Real About Your Rights,” including a quotation from Laurie Halse Anderson’s Speak. The corresponding bibliography includes sections on “Teen Rights,” “Juvenile Court,” “Issues and Cases,” “Web Resources on Young People’s Rights,” and more. Interesting resources include:

  • Teen Rights: A Legal Guide for Teens and the Adults in Their Lives by Traci Truly
  • No Matter How Loud I Shout: A Year in the Life of Juvenile Court by Edward Humes
  • Peacefire [http://www.peacefire.org]

The second display is titled “Get Real with Nonfiction,” encouraging young adults to read about “Real Adventures,” “Real History,” “Real People,” and “Real Science,” including these recommendations from the bibliography:

  • The Cuckoo’s Egg: Tracking a Spy Through the Maze of Computer Espionage by Clifford Stoll
  • The Secret Family: Twenty-four Hours Inside the Mysterious Worlds of Our Minds and Bodies by David Bodanis
  • King of the Mild Frontier: An Ill-Advised Autobiography by Chris Crutcher

Click here to go to Flickr and see more photos of Laura’s display, and read more about what she’s doing with teens on the library’s Teen Page.
