+ Elizabeth Bolger, 94, was librarian and storyteller – (from The Enquirer) – “In 1933, Elizabeth Shoenberger Bolger climbed behind the wheel of her car and drove to the University of Illinois to get a master’s degree in library science. She was still driving her own car at age 92.”
+ Library pushes staff increase – (from Island Packet Online) – “County libraries have had a 50 percent increase in customers since 2000, and officials say they need to spend more money to keep up with the county’s new residents and their demand for better services. As a result, the library division is continuing to push for more staff to help patrons at libraries and to open its branches on Hilton Head Island and in Beaufort on Sundays.”
+ Vienna Library patrons happy with new renovations – (from News and Sentinel) – “Library patrons this week may feel a bit like Alice as she tumbled down the rabbit hole in Lewis Carroll’s beloved tale “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” Upon walking through the library doors they may wonder, as Alice did after her descent, “What latitude or longitude have I got to?”
+ City nudges forward library addition plan – (from Kennebec Journal) – “Augusta city councilors informally approved a plan Tuesday to set aside $50,000 to begin architectural planning for a future $9 million Lithgow Public Library addition.”
+ Library reopens to raves – (from Redlans Daily Facts) – “More than 100 people packed into a courtyard next to the Loma Linda Branch Library for Tuesday’s rededication and ribbon cutting ceremony. Some came with their arms laden with library books checked out before the library was closed for remodeling”
+ Neighbors rally against shortened library hours – (from The Leader News) – “Men, women, and children – more than 50 in all – united last Saturday to strategize the next steps in the fight for full funding of the City’s Free Library system.”
+ Beekman library gets final touches – (from Poughkeepsie Journal) – “The long-awaited opening of the new Beekman Library on Clove Valley Road in Poughquag could come early this summer. Contractors are putting the finishing touches on the building that will offer patrons three times the space of the former library.”
