So, two days in a row. Some local library news that you may not have seen elsewhere.

+ City open to ideas for old library site - (from Portsmouth Herald) - “With crews laying groundwork for a new Parrott Avenue library, the city will begin accepting ideas for uses for the current library, built in the 1800s.”

+ Public to help design library- (from Washington Evening Journal) - “Area residents who use the Washington Public Library will have the opportunity to help design the new downtown library, next week.”

+ Library backers tout its unique offerings (from Macomb Daily) - “Hoping to fend off a budget-cutting proposal to close the Macomb County Library, officials say the facility’s status as a research center — plus its role in assisting the blind, the illiterate and local libraries across the county — is unappreciated.”

+ Library contains genealogy treasures - (from Daily and Sunday Star) - “The roots of thousands of family trees are nestled quietly at the genealogy department of the Tangipahoa Parish Library in Amite. And Lenore Johnson offers an experienced guiding hand to help the curious uncover them.”

+ Library A Great Resource - (from Vermilion Standard) - “Everyone knows that the library is a great place to go when you’re looking for reading material, but the Vermilion Public Library is going above and beyond the business of books.”

+ How to keep kids reading all summer - (from Detroit Free Press) - “An initiative by Scholastic and Woman’s Day magazine urges parents and young readers to consider books as another summer essential, just like bathing suits, pails and shovels, and baseballs. Here are some of the ideas to move books from the classroom and into your leisure activities”
